Epiphany about Epiphany

Today we celebrate the visitation of the Magi to the Holy Family.  As the story goes, there are three gifts presented to Jesus by the Magi; gold, frankincense, and myrrh.  The gold represents kingship, frankincense is used in prayer to God, and myrrh as an embalming oil at the time of death.

Reflecting on these gifts, I think about the gifts the Lord has given to me.  How can I, as a humble servant, give back to Him?  I am able to present my own gifts to Him each day using the gifts of the Magi as a reference.

The gold I can return to Him is the use of my gifts to bring about His Kingdom on earth.  I ask myself, “what have I done today to glorify my Lord and bring others closer to Him?”  The frankincense reminds me to acknowledge Him as my Lord and to spend time in prayer with Him.  Only through prayer can I know the will of the Father to bring glory to the Son with the help of the Spirit.  The myrrh serves to remind me that my life here on earth is a passing thing and my goal is to help as many people as possible achieve unity with the Lord in Heaven.  What do I do to learn more about my Faith and share this with others so they can share the joy I know by living in the Truth?

I pray for the strength to do what is necessary to share the gifts I have been given with those I encounter each day and for each of you to have the strength and courage to do the same.  God bless.
