As we enter a new year, and a new decade, we seek to start afresh and begin new habits that will, hopefully, make us a better person. One thing I believe most people do not realize is that it is impossible to set down our baggage on December 31 and start fresh and clean in the new year. The baggage comes with us.
As I have gotten older, now in the beginning of my 5th decade, I realize I need to put down my baggage and go through it. I need to look at each item I carry with me and determine if it is something I need to brush off and put in a place I can more easily access it, or do I need to place it on the outside of my baggage so I can see it, deal with it, and then set it aside once I have determined I no longer need it, or put it back for future use.
We all have things in our lives we are not happy with. We first need to assess where we are in our journey and determine if the baggage we already have can be handled before we add additional burdens to our daily lives. Let’s begin this new year looking at what we have in our life and determine what is best to do with it before adding anything else to it.
May the Lord bless you in this new year and decade.
