Power in the World

The Gospel for this First Sunday of Lent provides an interesting insight to power in the world.  Christ’s tempter admits “all power and glory in the kingdoms of the world have been handed over to him”.  If this is so, it can also be taken away from him by the giver.

This admission by the tempter should give us pause to examine our lives and the type of power we seek in the world.  Are we seeking power for our own good or for the good of others?  If we wish to gain the true power of the one who laid down His life for us, we must first seek to give of ourselves to the others we encounter in our daily life.  True power is found in giving it away.
